The Ottawa Orchid Society (OOS) was founded in 1978 to promote and assist in every way the knowledge, appreciation, culture, study, development, improvement and conservation of orchids. Members come from all walks of life. Over the years, many have become expert growers and constitute a rich resource, sharing their knowledge and experience.

The Ottawa Orchid Society is affiliated with the Canadian Orchid Congress (COC) and with the American Orchid Society (AOS). Through these affiliations, the Society is able to obtain accredited AOS judges for the annual show in Ottawa and world-class speakers for regular meetings.

We meet the third Sunday of every month, excepting June, July and August, from 1:30 p.m. to about 4:00 p.m., at the Tom Brown Arena, 141 Bayview Ave., Ottawa. Click here for more information. Meetings are open to members, guests and non-members and everyone is welcome. However, to help defray society costs we request non-members to pay a small admission fee of $5.00 per meeting. Of course, admission to all monthly meetings (nine per year) is included with membership, currently only $25 per year.

A Board of Directors manages the affairs of the Society, with elections held every two years in accordance with the Society’s formal Constitution. The first Ottawa Orchid Society plant to receive an AOS award was in May, 1979.  Please click here for a complete history of the Ottawa Orchid Society.

On a regular basis, the Ottawa Orchid Society partners with other local organizations to offer orchid growing workshops. Workshops are available on a variety of orchid-related topics, from Orchids 101 (a true beginner's course) to An Orchid Safari (an exploration of the exotic beauties, the less than usual and the true oddities that make up the orchid family). These workshops can also be tailored to any audience.
